DETAILED BIOGRAPHY

“An Artist is not paid for his labor, but for his vision”

– James McNeill Whistler

NICOLE CLARE EMANUEL was born in the quaint country town of Tumut in NSW Australia. She has been a professional photographer for over 30 years, and has been horse mad her entire life!

“As a child, when I saw horses in photos, or pictures or even in real life, I was literally in awe! As an adult, anything I do with horses still leaves me with this sensation. I almost have a momentary loss of time whenever I am drawing, painting, or simply spending time with these magnificent creatures.”

Nicole has made an extensive career out of her life’s passion of both photography and horses.
Since she was a small child she has been visually driven, drawing non stop from the moment she could hold a pencil. Her drawings of horses were very advanced for her age and displayed a particular talent for anatomical realism. Growing up in the scenic Snowy Mountains she was surrounded by beauty and visual inspiration.  Her artwork extended to photography where she had another creative outlet to produce moving, emotive pictures.
She began entering and winning Photography competitions as a child, and in her later years as a professional. She has won and being recognised in Prestigious Awards such as the Country Press Awards, the Nikon Awards, the Hurley Awards, and the Horse Racing Photographer of the Year.

She was employed as a Full-time press photographer for Australia’s leading Metropolitan Daily Newspapers for over 20 years. She was selected to photograph one on one portraits with Hollywood actors Denzel Washington, Renee Zellweger and Joel Edgerton to name just a few. Her trademark style is natural lighting,  emotive, intimate  and exquisitely beautiful images.
Her work has graced the covers and pages of “The Age”, “The New York Times”, “The Sydney Morning Herald”, “Photojournalism International Magazine” and “the Australian Geographic Magazine”.

She went back to her main love in life – her Horse Photography in the late 1990’s, and she is now one of the most decorated Equine Photographers in Australia. She also has a large-format photographic book to her credit, “High on Horses”, launched Internationally in 2003, which became an Australian best-seller.
Her outstanding achievement as a photographer was recognised in 2018 when she was awarded the title of Fujifilm X-Ambassador for FUJIFILM GLOBAL during the launch of the new mirrorless Fujifilm X-T3.
She now lives in Picturesque West Gippsland, Victoria where she runs a boutique Crabbet Arabian horse stud, and is currently working on a new range of printed stock including her next large-format photographic book.
